Espace Pierres Folles

The herbarium mainly gathers vascular plants from the Rhône-Alpes region, especially around Lyon, the Rhône valley, the Alps of Savoy, and Dauphiné. It also includes plants from the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, especially from Queyras, and some species from other regions (Alsace, Jura, Languedoc) or exotic.

The herbarium was started in 1943, with a 22 x 17.5 cm format, which was maintained until 1956. Specimens from this period include species from locations that have now disappeared, especially around Lyon. Specimens were determined by the author of the herbarium or by renown botanists from Lyon (cited in the Flora Lyonnaise by George Nétien, published by La Société Linnéenne de Lyon in 1993). Unless otherwise specified, each specimen was collected by the author of the herbarium.

The herbarium has 1,855 specimens attached to tagged white paper sheets, placed, for each species, in 1 or 2 bubble-paper folders, labelled with the Latin name(s) of the species. These sub-folders are gathered in cardboard flap folders, themselves placed in 14 cardboard boxes.
